The money it well worth it. For a start is a nice tool. But there are also others that a re less expensive. If you are a rookie I recommend you the much cheaper Nikon D40. It has more intuitive menu and commands. After 6 months of intensive use you can switch to Canon 450D or Nikon D60 or Canon 350
