On 7th of May 2008 I finally boughed my first DSRL – the new Canon EOS 450D (Canon Digital Rebel XSi ) . Actually I ordered it online from www.DigitalWonderWorld.de for 748.81 euros.
For some time now, I wanted to get another camera. I have been using my Sony DSC-P73 for more than 3 years. For a detailed review please go to www.Cameras.co.uk or www.Imaging-Resource.com . It is a great camera for it’s price. I really liked the fact that it has a manual mode where I can change a lot of settings. But I have go make a step further.
For a year or so I have been asking myself what camera should I get. Last year, I was dreaming for a Canon EOS 400D. I didn’t the cash then to by such a camera. Since then, with God’s help, I managed to save some money to get a new DSLR camera.
This year the camera battle came alive again. What camera should I buy? In the same price range I looked to see which one to buy:
- Canon EOS 40D
- Canon EOS 450D
- Nikon D60
- Nikon D80
- Sony alfa 350
I decided not to buy Canon EOS 40D because the extra features that it has comparing with the 450D I do not need, except the better grip and weather sealing. In the same time it is too big. I was talking with my sister, Anda, about important is thesize of the camera. I will use this camera in every day conditions. I do not want to carry a stone with me, even if it would have a nice grip and some good extra features.

The size of 40D is actually an advantage, you can shoot more stable pictures in low light than with a lighter camera, I talk from experience. There are more advantages in favour of 40D: accessories compatible with 5D, low noise on high ISO, CF slot, 2 handy dials, magnesium alloy body, etc.
Anyway, for an beginner, you made a good choice.
And the pictures are fine, all right.
Thank you Catalin for your comment. Yes, you are true. I totally agree on the reasons you mentioned. When I said that 40D is too big and that this is a disadvantage I meant just portability, that it is harder to take with me, everywhere I go a bigger camera. Actually I wait for the 50D. Until then I have a lot to learn with my 450D
