When we read the Scriptures or hear the stories from the Bible, we get to believe that we shall never have such a great life like the heroes we read about. At church we are told about how great is that guy or that lady. And we might feel discouraged. Let me tell you something: all those biblical heroes were humans just like me and you .
In the Bible we are also told the mistakes of some of the greatest people that ever existed . Yes, they did stupid things like I do most of the times. They sinned, they were discouraged, they forgot that there is a God, they disobeyed God and His Son - Jesus Christ.
Everyone has his/hers weak points, as I told you before in What should we do with our weak spot(s)? The right question is what are we going to do about them.
Here’s one of David’s mistakes.
10 David arose and fled that day from Saul
and went to Achish king of Gath.11 The servants of Achish said to him,
Is not this David, the king of the land?
Did they not sing one to another of him in their dances:
Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his ten thousands?12 David took these words to heart
and was much afraid of Achish king of Gath.13 And he changed his behavior before them,
and pretended to be insane in their [Philistine] hands,
and scribbled on the gate doors,
and drooled on his beard.14 Then said Achish to his servants,
You see the man is mad.
Why then have you brought him to me?15 Have I need of madmen,
that you bring this fellow
to play the madman in my presence?
Shall this fellow come into my house?1 Samuel 21:10-15
What can we learn from this specific mistake? In verse 12 it says that when David realized that he had been recognized, he panicked, fearing the worst from Achish, king of Gath. David panicked. It’s strange to see how someone that killed lions and bears with his bear hands and defeated Goliath, now fears Achish.
David felt alone. This happens to us a lot of times. We are afraid when we have an exam or when we have to do something that we never did. We are afraid when choosing the person that we’ll marry. We fear by ourselves. I know that I do all those things.
What is the remedy for fear? I want an answer to that because I have many fears my self. Trusting in the Lord really helps me. When I know that the strongest Person in the whole Universe is next to me is there anything I should fear of? I know it is hard. I forget sometimes who’s my Dad, and I do things by myself instead of inviting Him.
Let’s help each other to trust more in God . He is a personal god. He wants to take part in out small life. Help me to help you in helping me.
Here are few verses to help us
say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you."
Isaiah 35:4
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13
