God brings difficult times in our lives to strengthen us and to prepare us for the future responsibilities and the plan He has for us.
We can see this in David’s life. God put David in different situations, so latter he would be a good king. God prepared David step by step.
Fact 1 God send the lion and the bear to attack David’s sheep herd. As we previously talked , God helped David to trust in Him with smaller things. Then David had the strength to kill the bear and the lion.
34 And David said to Saul,
Your servant kept his father’s sheep.
And when there came a lion or again a bear
and took a lamb out of the flock,35 I went out after it
and smote it and delivered the lamb out of its mouth;
and when it arose against me,
I caught it by its beard
and smote it and killed it.36 Your servant killed both
the lion and the bear;
and this uncircumcised Philistine
shall be like one of them,
for he has defied the armies of the living God!1 Samuel 17:34-36
Fact 2 God send His Spirit over David
Then Samuel took the horn of oil
and anointed David in the midst of his brothers;
and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David
from that day forward .
And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.1 Samuel 16:13
Fact 3 God made it so that the philistines would come to fight Israel . Because God choose David, He did all to prepare David for the future. With the Spirit of the Lord that David had and his experience with God, David had the courage to face Goliath. So, with God interference David killed Goliath.
Fact 4 After David killed Goliath and Israel won the battle against the philistines the people rejoiced. The women praised David more than Saul.
7 And the women responded
as they laughed and frolicked, saying,
Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his ten thousands.8 And Saul was very angry,
for the saying displeased him;
and he said,
They have ascribed to David ten thousands,
but to me they have ascribed only thousands.
What more can he have but the kingdom?1 Samuel 18:7-8
God did this, so Saul would foresee the future . Saul wanted the kingdom of Israel for himself and his family. It was hard for Saul. I feel sorry for him. Saul it’s been a living example of what we should not do: to take responsibilities that are not ours and not to obey God’s word.
Fact 5 With all this background, something else happened:
10 The next day
an evil spirit from God
came mightily upon Saul ,
and he raved [madly] in his house,
while David played [the lyre] with his hand,
as at other times;
and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.11 And Saul cast the javelin , for he thought,
I will pin David to the wall .
And David evaded him twice.12 Saul was afraid of David,
because the Lord was with him
but had departed from Saul.1 Samuel 18:10-12
Many more facts about this we can find in the Bible, about how God prepared David to be the king of Israel. I hope to write about them in the latter posts.
