God wants our good. Because God loves us, He want us to be responsible for our actions. How would a child grow if you take all the decisions for him/her. In the same manner God wants us to grow.
One side of our growth implies also the political scene. We have the rulers that we deserve as the Israel people used to. They looked to other and wanted a king for themselves, instead of having God as king.
Here is what Samuel told the people, form God:
14 If ye will fear the LORD,
and serve Him,
and obey His voice,
and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD,
then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you
continue following the LORD your God:15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD,
but rebel against the commandment of the LORD,
then shall the hand of the LORD be against you,
as it was against your fathers.1 Samuel 12:14-15
Pardon the old English for the Bible verses. The King James translation version is one of the best out there, if we do not stuck with the old language.
