The Kingdom of God on Earth is His Church

And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” Mark 9:1

Today I was reading this passage. I found a strange promise. Jesus said that some of the people that were listening to Him that day would not die until they see the kingdom of God. I thought in the first place that it is a false statement. That something is wrong in there. My conception is that the kingdom of God will be in Heaven. So, I did some research to see what the kingdom of God means in this passage. Reading other passages from the Bible I realized that the kingdom of God also means the church of God. Here are those passages:

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. Colossians 1:13

I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 1:9

(18) I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. (19) I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:18-19

(6) So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” (7) He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; (8) but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (9) And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Acts 1:6-9

I as got to understand I realized the:

  • Jesus teaches that some of his disciples would not die until they saw the kingdom come with power
  • They were to receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them.

And those promises were fulfilled as we see in Acts 2:1-4.

(1) When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. (2) And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. (3) And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Acts 2:1-4

So, the kingdom of God refers here to the church of God on earth.
